Getting Organised

Now that the kids have returned back to school this is the month to get organised. And to get organised, I need to prioritise my needs, wants and ambitions - right?

_______________________________________________________
If my household isn't organised, then may as well throw the wants and ambitions out the window. Who wants to spend every spare moment cleaning or ironing or doing the garden. Unfortunately, that's what has been going on for me over the last few years. I would come home from work, and get into the housework, and fall into a heap long after the kids got to bed. My weekends were taken up with vacuuming, cleaning toilets, washing clothes, cleaning kids rooms.  I used to spend hours organising my wardrobe and putting back items back that have been sitting in there, buried and unused.

I decided this year to stop being that crazy housewife/mum and actually start a system.  Sort first, then decide what needs to be kept, and what needs to go, instead of moving items around the house just to make it look tidy, getting frustrated with everyone for not looking after their things!

My bedroom, the budoir (as if!)....  Last weekend, as I sorted through my clothes  – an idea came to me! A SWAPSIE Party! I know, it sounds quite racy, but a low-key get-together with a group of friends, each bringing 5 items of clothing.  An inexpensive way to a new wardrobe, all the while getting rid of those items that I had not worn in over a year.   Items that were not swapped, then go in the donate pile.  Now, pile of clothes sits in a suitcase under my bed.  OK, so that got my wardrobe woes out of the way (nearly!).

The kitchen.....  When the kids get home from school, bags usually get dumped in the kitchen; with lunch boxes and drink bottles strewn over the kitchen bench; pieces of paper thrust in my face.   And if I'm not home, papers are also left strewn.  From there, of course, the papers get whizzed to ....

The office - agggggrrrrhhhh!  Where do I start?  The dumping ground for all things.  I have a nasty little pile of papers in my office that damn near haunts me...  I go near the pile, and then don't know where to start.  I shuffle papers, sit there and stare - I am actually not too sure what is in there!

Back to the kids for a minute - along with school, comes the sports.  I have feeling this is going to be a busy year.  DD8 is into cello, choir, dancing and tennis;  DD5 is into dancing; and DS7 is into soccer.  Oh yes, this is going to be a very busy year.  My weekends will no longer be put aside for cleaning!

So, I need  a system.  I need some organisation inspiration.  My favourite blogger, Kat at The Organised Housewife, has such great ideas and  downloadables.  I am in love with her at the moment, and she is going to get me through this!  Please have a look at her blog where she talks about  organising room by room.

I always head over to Pinterest.  Ah yes, my favourite site (and virtual best friend!), Pinterest.  Showcasing the beautiful, inspirational pictures that will bring me out of this disorganised chaos!  And yes, one day I will stop 'pinning' and actually make something I have seen on that site!

I WILL do this!!!!!!

Next week..
